Crowds and auspicious days – the inseparable twins

So, why im writing this?cause I believe some that many people still think that the buses and trains are crowded only during holidays like pongal, diwali and on weekends like Friday and Sunday. Let me narrate my experience about the journey (actually a curse) that made me erase the about facts. Regarding reservations and preplanning, sorry I never preplan my travel for short distances(upto 400km).I just move on when im in a mood. So train journey is always a dream for me,  bus is my only companion. I even hate that 90 days advance reservation scheme in train (heard they are planning to make it 120 now, damnn)
It was on Feb 6th 2011 , a Saturday night @ 10.30 pm(yep till then im really not in a mood to travel) I decided to proceed to Madurai for a marriage. Game starts – bags packed, reached the bus terminal at 11.15 pm.Just getting into it got see the utterly insufficient status of our transport department. On every platform, in every bus, to everywhere, the people are jam-packed to suffocation(actually id say, they chose to do it themselves). And I was really irritated to witness such a scene in a non season day. Its just a Saturday. What the hell guys??.Them I recollected the reason for this over-crowded situation,”Muhurta Naal”,yes the auspicious day we chose to marry that fortunate person(many times, many end up unfortunate).Random thoughts running in my mind about getting a seat in our government jail, sorry bus.A hundred of us would wait at the platform when a bus reaches, damn im not so talented to get into it,overtaking the herd. I can see many people walking mad trying to snatch a seat in any of the bus.Nothing worked out well. I saw a mass lineup of buses waiting to get out of the terminal, though only very buses entering.I walked to all possible places of bus entries, the main road, the depot(yep, that too). For hell sake even the overcharging private carriers are all washed out that day. The struggle ended after 3 hours(yes after 3 hours of madness and frustration) @ 2 am when I managed to get into a trichy bound Volvo bus. I usually never prefer these high tech buses for 6 hour less journeys, still its my doom day escape.

So a happy ending  all you think? Actually my curse evoked here. The Volvo too is much crowded and many people were standing. I managed to get some space over the spare wheel (with 2 people sharing it) kept aside the middle door. Thus the journey starts now. Some 30 minutes away a granny from heavyweight family members who were sitting on the bus floor asked for my seat (ok .the tyre). So what our society thought us? help the elderly. I too did the same. Gave up the tyre place and sat on the floor. Another 30 minutess away after these ticketing stuffs all over. The same granny placed her grandchild(a wet grinder like girl at 8) on the floor near me. The girl was craving for space sitting near me in asleep, like the Chinese who invade us just inch by inch(in my case cm by cm). After some 10 ten minutes I gave up my place and stood up irritated.Holy cow,the girl now slept more  comfortably. The bus was proceeding at some 100kmph with the only good thing AC saving my life there. It stopped for a tea break at 4.30 in vilupuram. After everyone went out to have a break,I sat on a seat for five minutes, thank god a seat for at least 5 minutes saving my suspension. Again the journey resumed after 10 minutes and again my standing punishment begins. Not one, not two, nearly after 5 hours of standing in a sq.ft space(the feet in pic)(god, ive travelled standing only in city bus, that too not more than an hour), mission accomplished. After that  getting to Madurai was not much of a problem.
So I told to myself, its not just pongal, diwali, weekends or any other national holidays we see the buses and train crowded. If your time is not good, you’ll be forced to stand even in Volvo buses  on a extremely non-peak day.

Some unfair days of my life - Part 1

Writing a blog after a very long time make me think a lot before doing it.Many questions  I ask to myself. Why am writing this? Why shouldn’t I write this? Who will read this? And the way I convince is just saying to myself “Its just a blog and not a court of judgement”.So lets groove to my latest experiences I came across in tirunelveli….
I was there for at least a month with my grandma and relatives(about grandpa, ill tell). It all started with a phone call on Nov 15th at 3pm,when I was busy studying for my last exam of my life in engineering on 19th(OK,was seeing the book, happy?).Mom called and told me that my uncle in tirunelveli met with a serious accident, the one which happens frequently in  our country  – a two wheeler getting knocked down by a 4 wheeler or larger vehicles ending up fatally;same case for my uncle. She was literally crying while explaining the situation. I already being a poor learner was let down by this news with just 3 days for exam. And then I tried calling up dad and some other relatives in which many were very busy to respond  to me.At evening my dad called up ,”why don’t you come here and see your uncle for the last time?”.Me just stunned hearing it,cause my dad usually never asks me do any sort of thing during exam time, and I this is my last chance to get a first class degree(yep, already wasted 6 months).I  just to told him that ill decide and tell, total journey time of 24 hrs(up and down) and after again one exam,I was damn sure ill never write something in paper If don’t prepare. Then at night the matter was finally resolved by mom, she just asked me come after writing the exam.So exams over and landed on tirunelveli at 20th morning, where my relatives a where performing rituals for my uncle.
So still you can ask why more than a month in tirunelveli?.My answer is  1.Our society/culture and 2.Grandpa grandpa go away.Yep,for the first point to be explained  we are not a set of people who when dies we just bury/burn them and leave the place. We are always thought to do some rituals for the dead,in tamil we used to tell “16am naal or 10am naal kaariyam”.And my family being a close relative to my uncle was help up for some days .At last I started to Chennai again(yes,I am not really doing useful in Chennai,u guessed right). To avoid more boring days till my judgement day – exam result,I went to thanjavur to meet my parents.Everyting was good, except for another phone call from grandma stating granpa’s condition is worsening,to add to this he was detected cancer just 3 months back, he’s 74.So wat’s our duty to do after a phone call like this?, start again to tirunelveli.

Funny elements I look for in tamil films - Part 1

NOTE:Please read this for enjoyment only.No one mentioned particularly. All the points below has   been adopted from movies at least 10 year before.

Villains Galore:
Commercial Tamil movie villains posses either or all of the below characteristics:
  1. The bad guy spends most of the time drinking alone at home or at a plushy bar.
  2. He is surrounded by a number of useless people giving worthless advices.
  3. He used to wear the costliest(perhaps the funniest) consumes.
  4. His mustache is the most attractive than anyone else in the entire movie.
  5. While his entry he used to make some awkward noises(noticeably in rape scenes)
  6. His part-time duty is to rape young girls(sometimes housewife and 2nd heroines)
Eg:In one of the movie i came across, the villain is the “Jamindaar”(Some rich guy).Soon after waking up he calls his "allakkai"(mentioned at point 2).And he tells tat fellow to check for any new girls in the village(ha ha ha ha)

7.If he walks on the street or comes cruising in a jeep(in most village based movies) the peoples walking on the road would give a free way fearing him;except for hero or the one is ought to be killed by him.
8.Universal Law I:How much ever he may win all aspects of the hero,in the climax the dutiful villain either surrenders or die terribly.
9.Universal Law II:The villain is alwtays a rich guy in most movies, yet he is always disrespected by most people(respect only for heros in tamil movie).
10.Universal Law III:The villain though he himself may had an love marriage, still he never like anyone involved in love affairs.
11.Though he is the village head,he never implements any good plans for the village.
12.If he fails in acquiring something from someonne,he make sure that no one acquires(he destroys it)
13.The evil guy  has immediate access to all weapons( or atleast a handgun or arivaal i.e.sickle).
14.Has a ridiculous appeal(Eg.a thick red stripe in his forehead,a bald head).
15.Wears enough ornaments that may even make his neck pain.

150 Mercedes sold in one day - Aurangabad,India.

It was all the more surprising that such a huge delivery for Merc came from not any mero city but from a small city-Aurangabad. The models delivered today range in price from 25 to 90 lakhs.

This is the largest bulk sale ever for Mercedes in India. Rs65 crores in a single transaction. Somewhere, a car salesman is in commission heaven.

Like all big ideas, this one started small. A few businessmen who knew each other decided to buy their Mercedes. Then they began actively soliciting acquaintances and friends of friends. 100 Benz-seekers came on board. Some wanted more than one car. Auto expert rajan Dhawan says that in a single day 150 Mercs are sold speaks enough about the growth story of India. " Now I can say safely that Aurangabad has
displaced Ludhiana in terms of sale of Mercs," he concludes.

"We did not get together and place a bulk order for a discount. Companies generally look at bigger cities for investment, but smaller cities like Aurangabad have good infrastructure too," says one proud owner of Merc. It may be recalled that the sugar fields of Kolhapur are dotted with BMWs or Landcruisers as often as they are with tractors. A few years ago, when politicians didn't know any better, these are the sort of scenes that made India Shining seem like a worthy slogan of a country heading towards super-powerdom.

There are 1,1 million people living in the city of Aurangabad, north east of the city of Mumbai in India.
To put Aurangabad on the World map, 150 local business men purchased a high end luxury Mercedes Benz each, in one go. The “media stunt” was as bid to display the prosperity in India, that held a population of 1,2 billion.
” This could well be the highest valued car deal in India. The group wants to put their hometown on the global map”, is the message of the Indian TV-channel IBN, who has a tie up with CNN.
The deal is valued at 650 Million rupees, of 15 million USD.  Aurangabad was once  a small city in the underdeveloped Marathawada region of the state of Maharashtra. Now its called “an economic hub”.
Rishi Darda, MD Lokmat group, said:
“We wanted to put Aurangabad on the world map.” Rahul Mishrikotkar, of RHS Ventures, said: “We want to invite all investors and industries to Aurangabad.”
Dr. Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India said there is tremendous economic power in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
These young owners are all set now to get into the driver’s seat to showcase Aurangabad as the new hope of Maharashtra.
